Why Can't the MLS Act Like a Football League?

Quick: What is the only football league in the world that schedules its first division league matches at the same time as World Cup qualifiers? For bonus points, name the only football league in the world that schedules its first division league matches at the same time as the World Cup?

Yes, Jon Conway stepped up, and I might have to reconsider all the mean things I've said about him. (I'd still like to see what Cronin can do, though.) And yes, Chris Brown managed a goal against his old club and allowed the Quakes to scrape points from a team they should have crushed like bugs. But gee, wouldn't you rather have seen Donovan and Ching doing the finishing on some of those chances Wednesday night? For that matter, is anyone (besides Mr. If-you-can't-find-something-bad-to-say-don't-say-anything-at-all Geracie) remotely shocked that a game scheduled for a school night against the men's national team featuring a team without its star players can only draw 7000?

MLS refusal to schedule around the World Cup is bad for the teams, bad for the fans, and bad for the national team. Wake up, MLS. It's time to put a dollar into the clue machine.
