Civil War Letters

Civil War Letters

The addressee of all these letters is one James Lindsey of South Bloomingville, Ohio, who is the grandfather of my husband's grandmother, Bessie. Both James and his brother, Solomon, were privates in the same regiment, the 73rd Infantry Regiment of Ohio.

Bessie's other grandfather was John Henry Moses, who was the brother of Phoebe Ann Moses (aka Annie Oakley).

I reproduce the spelling and such as best I can. Interpolations and interpretations appear in square brackets.

Here is a picture of James Lindsey (seated, center) with two of his sons, Samuel T. Lindsey, James Clay Lindsey Jr., and probably his daughter, Mary. The picture is probably dated between 1900 and 1910, as the three younger Lindseys were living in the same house in Tennessee in 1900, and James Lindsey Sr. died in 1910 and was buried in Tennessee.
